    • CARA Board (Diversey & Lake Front Path)

    Muffin Run Sundays 9am November - May.

    A relaxed 1- hour run (sometimes with challenging weather) followed by brunch. The Muffin Runs are free (except for brunch!) and leave at 9:00 am Sundays from the CARA Board (Diversey and the lakefront running path). Since there will be varying paces, the only rule is that everyone end up at the brunch spot ~10:00 am.

    Your only duties are to make sure people join you for muffin run, show up for the run, and you get to pick the brunch spot. You may create a FB invite, post on the forum to get the word out.

    Muffin Run leaders earn 0.5 RAV points for leading a run. Earn another 0.5 RAV point by taking a photo of the group before the run and posting it on this thread.

    April Newbie Rides

    Our sponsor Fast & Fit Coaching is holding newbie rides leading up to Pleasant Prairie!

    This year they have partnered with two bike shops to have rides leave from two starting points.  For April, we will alternate locations from BFF Bikes in Bucktown and Tailwind Cycles in Albany Park.

    For April, the schedule is:

    • April 15th + 29th at BFF Bikes 2113 W Armitage Ave
    • April 22nd will be hosted by Tailwind Cycles 3140 Montrose Ave

    All Rides leave at 9 am with a moving time of 1 1/2-2 hrs. We start with a safety check and rules of the road and leave promptly at 9:05am.

    The rides are part of a progressive training plan ending with Pleasant Prairie Tri so each week has a new focus, increase time, cadence, transition, etc.

    We progress into bricks as part of the Saturday rides, where the bikes are secured at the shop and we go for a timed run.

    All riders will be given a cue sheet at the beginning of the ride since the distance changes weekly. 

    The rides are no-drop so pace is determined by the slowest rider but be prepared to push yourself.

    We ask riders to have helmet, phone, id, water bottles, flat repair kit (if you do not know how to change a flat they can help), bike.

    • Lake Shore Park (808 N Lake Shore Drive)

    Lake Shore Park Track Practice 6am May – October.
    Lake Shore Park Track practice is at Lake Shore Park (808 N Lake Shore Drive) on Tuesday mornings starting at 6 a.m.  Track Practice is open to all levels and is free if you bring your own workout.  Track workouts emphasize interval training, a key to success to improve your running speed, efficiency and form.

    If you’d like coaching, our sponsor Fast & Fit Coaching is offering a run coaching special in conjunction with this workout: You’ll get a customized weekly track workout along with instruction and feedback on how to improve your running form. These workouts coincide with the Tuesday morning practice sessions.  

    The cost for coaching is $160 for the full season (through the marathon into fall), 10 sessions for $125, or $15 for a single session. All new people are entitled to a free trial session, but everyone must RSVP to Michelle by registering for this event.

    Vision Quest Bike Certification Clinic

    This clinic is mandatory for anyone who would like to be a cycling ride leader or anyone interested in brushing up on their skills and getting more comfortable on their bikes. Limited to 20 participants so sign up soon.

    This bike safety and handling clinic lead by Vision Quest Coaching's Dave Noda.  Dave will go over essential skills, including how to:

        Turn properly
        Look behind you for cars
        Use group riding etiquette
        Stop in emergencies
        Take a drink while riding  

    You'll need to bring your:

        Bike (Road and Tri bikes only, please!)
        Cycling Shoes
        Helmet
        Water Bottle
        Tennis Shoes

    The clinic will consist of 30 minutes of classroom discussion and one hour of practical application.
